Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Thank you so much for contributing to the UK section of this year's Wiki Loves Monuments contest, which finished yesterday. We really do appreciate the time and effort you've put in to record the UK's built cultural heritage for future generations.
Your contribution has been been added to our collections here on Wikimedia Commons, and is already available for editors to make use of on Wikipedia and elsewhere. It has also been entered into this year's contest. If you'd like to see your own images, just click on the uploads link at the top right of this page (if you don't see it, click on the Log in option first).
We've received over 10,000 UK entries this year, and it will take a few weeks for our volunteers and professional judges to decide on the final top 10. The winners will be announced by the end of this month, both here on Wikimedia Commons and also on the competition website.
The top 10 UK images will go forward to the international section where they will compete against winners from some 50 other countries. The international winners should be announced here in December.

Heute nacht ist mir eingefallen, dass der Zug vielleicht nicht nach Brüssel fährt, sondern von dort kommt: Brüssel-Midi-Brüssel-Nord-Liege-Aachen-Köln-Frankfurt-Flughafen-Frankfurt-Hbf. Da war aber schon die Sperre wegen MOTD.
Etwas anderes: Dein gelöschtes Bild vom Atomium: Das wurde 2015 gelöscht. 2017 ist in Belgien (auch nach Bemühungen dortiger Wikipedier und mit großer Beachtung in der Wikipedia) ein Gestz zur Panoramafreiheit in Kraft getreten. Du kannst also unter Hinweis auf FoP-Belgien für diese Datei die Wiederherstellung beantragen.

Wie du bei den Top 5 des vergangenen Jahres siehst, sind vor allem Tiere unter den Siegerbildern. Aus diesem Grund setzen wir den Fokus dieses Jahr stärker auf Landschaftsaufnahmen. Aber natürlich haben auch Tierbilder eine Chance zu gewinnen.
Es sind wie immer viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu finden. Neben Naturdenkmälern wie alten Bäumen oder Naturparks im Gebirge und am Meer können Geotope wie Findlinge, Quellen und Aufschlüsse oder FFH-Gebiete fotografiert werden, um sie unter anderem in der Wikipedia zu dokumentieren. Obwohl es den Wettbewerb seit über zehn Jahren gibt, sind immer noch viele Motive überall in Deutschland zu fotografieren. Im Herzen Deutschlands in Thüringen und in Niedersachsen sind neue Denkmallisten entstanden, die auf Fotos warten. Übrigens in der Hauptstadt Thüringens in Erfurt findet dieses Jahr die WikiCon vom 1. bis 3. Oktober statt. Dies könnte man mit einem Foto-Kurzurlaub vor der WikiCon in Thüringen verbinden …
Vor dem Hintergrund der Flutkatastrophe 2021 haben wir auch drei Sonderpreise ausgelobt. Damit sollen Fotos prämiert werden, die Kulturdenkmale zeigen, die zerstört wurden. Das Foto kann das Objekt vor oder nach der Zerstörung zeigen.

Der Wettbewerb ist zweigeteilt, das heißt wir unterscheiden zwischen den beiden Wettbewerbskategorien Landschaft und Detail/Makro. Zu Landschaft zählen auch geschützte Einzelbäume. In der Wettbewerbskategorie Detail/Makro werden Pflanzen, Tiere und Pilze bewertet.
Es sind wie immer viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu finden. Neben Naturdenkmälern wie alten Bäumen oder Naturparks im Gebirge und am Meer können Geotope wie Findlinge, Quellen und Aufschlüsse oder FFH-Gebiete fotografiert werden, um sie unter anderem in der Wikipedia zu dokumentieren. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Der Wettbewerb ist zweigeteilt, das heißt, wir unterscheiden zwischen den beiden Wettbewerbskategorien Landschaft und Detail/Makro. Zur Wettbewerbskategorie Landschaft zählen auch geschützte Einzelbäume. In der Wettbewerbskategorie Detail/Makro werden Pflanzen, Tiere und Pilze in den Schutzgebieten bewertet.
Es sind wie immer viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu finden. Neben Naturdenkmälern wie alten Bäumen oder Naturparks im Gebirge und am Meer können Geotope wie Findlinge, Quellen und Aufschlüsse oder FFH-Gebiete fotografiert werden, um sie unter anderem in der Wikipedia zu dokumentieren. Auch im vergangenen Jahr sind zahlreiche neue Listen und Artikel in diesen Bereichen entstanden, die sich über Fotos freuen – zum Beispiel in Bayern die Liste der Naturdenkmäler im Landkreis Landshut oder die Liste der geschützten Landschaftsbestandteile in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mit ihren Unterlisten oder gar einzelne Artikel wie die Landschaftsschutzgebiete Sommerschafweide an Buchhalden und Sommerschafweide auf Hilbertswiese in Baden-Württemberg.

der Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Earth 2025 in Deutschland ist beendet. Im Rahmen der Kampagne haben 350 Teilnehmende 13.497 Fotos hochgeladen, die bereits über 1.000 Artikel in über 40 Wikipedia-Sprachversionen und Einträge auf Wikidata bebildern. Sämtliche Ergebnisse kannst du hier ansehen.
Um aus diesen Beiträgen die besten Fotos zu finden, läuft bis zum 16. August die Vorjury. Über Unterstützung bei dieser würden wir uns sehr freuen.
Die Siegerfotos werden voraussichtlich am 1. September verkündet.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

bald ist es soweit: Vom 1. Februar bis zum 31. März 2026 findet zum dritten Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Folklore (kurz: WLF) in Deutschland statt. Mögliche Motive sind gelebte Traditionen wie Feste, Aufführungen, Tänze, Musiktradition, Brauchtum, Spiele, Küche, Tracht, Märchen und Sagen. Viele dieser Kulturgüter sind als Immaterielles Kulturerbe gemäß der UNESCO-Konvention anerkannt. Du hast in den vergangenen Jahren teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich ein, auch dieses Jahr wieder mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!

Bei den drei Siegerbildern sind nur grandiose Motive aus Bayern dabei. Du kannst mit deinen Fotos helfen, Bayern vom Wiki-Loves-Folklore-Thron zu stoßen, du kannst aber auch dafür sorgen, dass Bayern den Titel erneut verteidigt.
Der englische Begriff Folklore umfasst vieles, was man im Deutschen unter Folklore versteht, aber er geht noch weiter. Schau nach gelebten Traditionen und Bräuchen in deiner Nähe.
Wir vergeben auch in diesem Jahr drei Sonderpreise für Videos und Audiodateien, da sich viele Traditionen gut im Video oder per Tonaufnahme darstellen lassen. Wir empfehlen, Videos kurz zu halten und sinnvoll zu schneiden.
Als Einstieg für die Suche nach Motiven hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Dort sind die nationalen Listen des immateriellen Kulturerbes aufgeführt.
Damit es ab dem 1. Februar mit dem Upload schnell geht:
Außerdem laden wir dich ein, vom 16. Februar bis Mitte April 2026 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Damit bewertest du die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelst so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die Ende April tagen wird, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool für Bilder ist bald hier freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und Passwort.
Die Videos werden in einem separaten Vorjurytool bewertet, der Link wird später auf unseren Seiten bekanntgegeben.
In diesem Jahr gibt es eine wichtige Regeländerung: Es können beliebig viele Bilder hochgeladen werden, aber nur die besten 50 Bilder pro Fotograf:in werden von der Hauptjury bewertet. Wir freuen uns weiterhin auf interessante Fotoserien von dir. Aber nutze dafür die Category:Images from Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 in Germany not for prejury und lege nur die besten Bilder der Jury vor.

Dabei können wie immer Nationalparks, Naturschutzgebiete, Landschaftsschutzgebiete und Naturdenkmäler oder andere Schutzgebiete fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich ein, auch dieses Jahr wieder mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos! In diesem Jahr möchten wir einen weiteren Meilenstein erreichten: 50 % aller Schutzgebiete sollen bebildert sein. Dafür fehlen uns noch Fotos aus etwa 900 Gebieten. Auch in deiner Nähe!

Der Wettbewerb ist zweigeteilt, das heißt, wir unterscheiden zwischen den beiden Wettbewerbskategorien Landschaft und Detail/Makro. Zur Wettbewerbskategorie Landschaft zählen auch geschützte Einzelbäume. In der Wettbewerbskategorie Detail/Makro werden Fotos von Pflanzen, Tieren und Pilzen in den Schutzgebieten bewertet.
Es sind wie immer viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu finden. Neben als Naturdenkmal geschützten alten Bäumen oder den großen Nationalparks der Mittelgebirge und am Meer können auch große und kleine landwirtschaftlich geprägte Landschaftsschutzgebiete dokumentiert werden. Auch zu über 16.000 Naturdenkmalen haben wir noch keine Fotos. Wo noch Fotos fehlen, kannst du über die Karte oder die umfangreichen Listen in Wikipedia herausfinden.
In diesem Jahr können mal wieder auch Fotos außerhalb von Schutzgebieten am Wettbewerb teilnehmen. Dafür haben wir den Sonderpreis mit dem Thema Stadtnatur ausgerufen.
Außerdem laden wir dich ein, vom 15. Mai bis zum 15. Juli an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Damit bewertest du die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelst so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die Ende Juli tagen wird, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Earth 2026 in Deutschland.

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
