Die Skulptur.Projekte Münster sind eine international bedeutende Ausstellung für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, die seit 1977 alle zehn Jahre in Münster stattfindet. Initiiert wurden sie von Klaus Bußmann und Kaspar König. Ziel war es, die Beziehung zwischen zeitgenössischer Skulptur, urbanem Raum und Öffentlichkeit neu zu definieren und kontroverse Diskussionen über Kunst im Stadtraum anzustoßen.
Viele der eigens für Münster entwickelten Arbeiten bleiben dauerhaft im Stadtbild erhalten und prägen es bis heute. Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus aller Welt setzen sich mit Architektur, Geschichte und sozialem Gefüge der Stadt auseinander. Die Ausstellung findet parallel zur documenta in Kassel statt und hat sich zu einem zentralen Forum für ortsspezifische Kunst entwickelt. Über Jahrzehnte hinweg spiegeln die Skulptur.Projekte gesellschaftliche, politische und ästhetische Entwicklungen und machen Münster zu einem lebendigen Experimentierfeld moderner Kunst.

The Skulptur.Projekte Münster is an internationally renowned exhibition of art in public spaces, which has been held every ten years in Münster since 1977. It was initiated by Klaus Bußmann and Kaspar König. The aim was to redefine the relationship between contemporary sculpture, urban space, and the public, and to spark controversial discussions about art in urban spaces.
Many of the works developed specifically for Münster remain permanently in the cityscape and continue to shape it to this day. Artists from all over the world engage with the architecture, history, and social fabric of the city. The exhibition takes place parallel to the documenta in Kassel and has developed into a central forum for site-specific art. Over the decades, the Skulptur.Projekte have reflected social, political, and aesthetic developments, making Münster a lively testing ground for modern art.
