Am I the only user with Javascript issues on the QIC page?

For 3 of 4 days now, the QInominate gadget doesn't work anymore for me. I can nominate images, then I can edit the QIC page and the green bar "Click here to insert your stored nomination!" does appear, and when I click it, nothing is inserted (but the gadget empties its list and the nominations are gone). I would think that it's an issue with the gadget, but strangely, signatures with "~~~~" are also not working, but only on the QIC page. When I sign with "--~~~~" on any other Commons page, it turns correctly into my username link, but when I do it on the QIC page, it remains "--~~~~". I would think it's a brower issue, but it happens with multiple browsers. I would also think that maybe Javascript does not work at all on the QIC page, but the QIVote tool is working flawlessly.

Something like this may be difficult to track because it may depend on your web browser and its add-ons, as well as on your browser settings. The gadget is working just fine on my computer. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 12:35, 25 April 2026 (UTC)

Do you happen to use syntax highlighting in the editor? Per m:Tech/News/2026/17, the syntax highlighting had a major version upgrade on Tuesday, April 21. Maybe the QIC gadget cannot handle the new version. If this is the case, turning off syntax highlighting should make it work it until the gadget is fixed. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 19:00, 25 April 2026 (UTC)

Number of QIs by country / state / city

Hi, is there any way to quickly identify the number of QIs by country, state, city or any other geographical entity ? Of course, QIs of geography-related subjects should be categorised in "Quality images of CITY / REGION / ETC", but as we now have many subcategories, you can't find quickly the total number. There is PetScan, of course, but you have to search every country one by one.

I believe a table of the number of QIs by country / town / etc would be useful as it would encourage photographers to take and import QIs (or reviewers to search for pictures already on Commons) of areas of the world or of their country that have no or few QIs. --Benji 12:46, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

I am pretty sure a lot of QIs are NOT categorized as they should. A lot of people who have QIs are not aware of those categories - I wasn't for quite a while when I already had a good number of QIs. So even if you get a nunber from those categories, it will only be a small part of the QIs of that country/state/city. Kritzolina (talk) 17:39, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

That's an issue, right, although the figures are not so bad : as of today, 378 365 images are in subcategories of "Quality images by country" [1], which is 85% of a total 444 295 QIs on Commons. We have to work on this (and I sometimes categorise other people QIs when I find them) but I believe statistics by country / region / etc would still be relevant based on 85 % of QIs. --Benji 09:33, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

In memoriam

I just want to let you know that Marina Gorbunova, young female photographer and active last year participant of QIC project, died from cancer few months ago. We didn't know each other personally, so I only found out about it now. I don't have any requests or suggestions in connection with this message, I just want to share it because I'm very sad. problem with the QI Nominator gadget

Hello, I’m having a problem with the QI Nominator gadget on Wikimedia Commons.

I can no longer nominate new photos for Quality Images using the gadget.

When I try to use it, the nomination process does not work properly. I have already tried refreshing the page and using different browsers, but the issue still remains. File ID for Nominations

As often seen, some files getting nominated twice or more on the same page and it's a burden for nominators to check this double nominations. Is it possible to add the unique File ID to the nomination for an easier check? E.G.: A41FC115F2A97C81393E2EE1DF72F218 is the unique ID in the exifs for this file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AC_SO_Karlspreisverleihung_2026_14._Mai_Kr%C3%B6nungssaal_Rede_Mario_Draghi_I_(cropped).jpg

It would not get every File, but a great number and would be easier to check for doublettes in the nomination process. Or does the Commons-Server has a way to get an md5 hash for every file, to check for it? What do you think? Grunpfnul (talk) 09:14, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

Yes, over time. But you said "on the same page", wouldn't that also mean "at the same time" and thus the filename would be enough? Or do you mean "on the same page but NOT at the same time"?
